Fish with Ayakulik River Adventures

There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.

The Ayakulik River receives one of the first runs of salmon on Kodiak Island with the arrival of sockeye (red) salmon in mid-June.  This is a long and continuous run of fish lasting until the first part of September.  It is a truly unique fish run, with a yearly average of 300,000 sockeye.  Peak dates for sockeyes are mid-June throgh  the end of August.

With an abundant run of salmon entering the river June through September the bears, mammals, birds and fisherman take advantage of this rich food

The King salmon put up a long hard battle and take a fly very well.  The layout of the Ayakulik River is the best one will find within Kodiak Island for catching these magnificent fish on the fly.  The peak dates for kings are mid-June to end of July.


Ayakulik River Adventures is not responsible for any emergency closures and regulaitions that impact fishing.  This mainly pertains to the king salmon.

The silver salmon is a very acrobatic fish.  They hit flies very aggressively and then proceed to leap and dive.  They take both wet and dry flies.  Peak dates for silvers are August 23 to September 10

The pink salmon is the smallest of the salmon species run in abundant numbers and take flies very well.  They can be fished along with sockeyes in late July and August or with silvers in August and September.  Peak dates for pinks are Late July to early September.

The steelhead trout have two runs on the Ayakulik.  The "out" going run in the summer then "in" coming run in the fall.  Steelhead take both wet and top water flies.  All steelhead are catch and release. Peak dates are late August to early October.


Dolly varden / Artic char is a beatuiful colored fish with runs through late summer and fall with the most numbers in August and September.
